The 13th of May is World Cocktail Day. It was on this day way back in 1806 that The Balance and Columbian Repository, a New York newspaper, published the earliest definition of the word “cock-tail”, describing it as “a stimulating liquor, composed of spirits of any kind, sugar, water and bitters.”
